Adding Texture to Midday Flatness

I'm trying to ease away from Photoshop gimmicks. Yesterday's photo shoot was not as planned. I never would have photographed a forest during the middle of the day on purpose. So I'm happy the tones are realistic. Even if realistic means flat and colorless.

But I could not resist perking one up with a texture overlay and edge blur. It just smooths everything out. I don't know.  Maybe I'll look back on this in 3 months and wonder what I was thinking?  We shall see.  What this forest could really use is a tilt shift lens!
